ModSecurity is an engine of intrusion detection for web applications that acts preemptively low appearance of a module Apache, with the sole purpose of increasing web application security, protecting them from possible attacks and filtering of SQL statements.

It provides an interesting solution to the problems of vulnerability and security linked to attacks on web applications. A poorly programmed PHP or CGI script could violate the privacy of data stored, so it is essential to be well against this risk. ModSecurity will intercept all requests sent to the HTTP server and analyse them in order to then block it if carries a risk. It acts on the basis of a series of default administrator settings.

By monitoring all of the generated traffic, creating very detailed logs files and performing self-tests, ModSecurity embodies a prevention policy that we can put into action through the creation of custom rules that address more specific needs. Examples? Control of the extensions of files uploaded via form, filtering requests based on a few key words, execution of a last external program check a filter, etc. It will allow us to avoid all kinds of attacks such as Cross-site-scripting or cross-directory, and other less known.
